Valerie began painting 5 years ago at the age of 68. Since then she has painted well over 100 dog and cat portraits in acrylics many of which can be seen on instagram at Valeriethedogpainter. She has also branched out into the world of landscapes and soft pastels and now says she is addicted to working on sanded paper with soft pastels.
Two days a week she paints at Senior Centers in Carroll County Maryland and is also in a studio art class at Carroll Community College. She is a member of the Maryland Pastel Society, the Sykesville Painting Club, and the Carroll County Arts Council. In addition to painting she is an avid photographer. She recently had an exhibition of 40 of her works at the Ruth Dodge Art Gallery in Sykesville, Maryland.
