Jerome Atherholt studied classical realism at the Schuler School of Fine Art in Baltimore, MD. He completed courses in portraiture, anatomy, oil and watercolor painting, drawing and sculpture. He found himself drawn to oil painting because, when executed properly, its versatility in the use of glazes, half-pastes and impasto's allows for a rich representation of the subject, and an unparalleled illusion of depth. Upon completion of the 5-year certificate program, he taught drawing and still life painting at the Schuler school for 11 years. He also taught children drawing and painting at The Mitchell School in North Baltimore County. He recently retired as a senior digital artist after more than 25 years in the computer game industry, first with MicroProse and then Firaxis Games. During his tenure in the digital art world, he contributed to over 30 game titles. Over the past several years he has also ventured into book illustration and has completed his third publication. Whether working on canvas or computer, his style continues to reflect that of the great masters. He excitedly returns to his traditional, analog roots as he delves back into the world of fine art.
