Shawn has a Master of Arts in Ceramics from Hood College and a Baccalaureate degree in Art Education from Longwood University. He has been an art educator in Loudoun County Public Schools for 30 years. Shawn has remained fully engaged in the arts providing education to both adults and children through adjunct teaching, governor's school faculty appointment, and community arts centers. He is an inaugural member of the Loudoun County Artisan Trail and the Western Loudoun Artist Studio Tour. Shawn has operated Wood Fired Pottery, a home studio, kiln, and pottery production since 2005. He shows and sells his work in local community art shows, galleries, and events. Shawn lives in the village of Lucketts in Loudoun County with his wife and four children. Utilizing elements of nature including raw earthen clay, ash glaze, wood, and fire, Shawn produces organic, functional art. He believes strongly in the interaction and experience of humans with art forms, as art in its earliest creations was interwoven with daily life. Wood Fired Pottery achieves these ideals.
