As a happy retiree in Winchester, I am finally able to devote considerable time (but there are never enough hours in the day!) to my art.
I was raised in an artistic environment – my Father, William Persa, works also often on display here, was a nationally known, award winning artist from Bethlehem PA, my Mother a gem with a needle.
It is my pleasure and my joy to follow in his footsteps, even taking baby steps in comparison. All my adult life I have enjoyed making special greeting cards for loved ones. In between happily raising our children and mostly tolerating a mundane office “career” it was the only endeavor I seemed to have time for. Now I am finally able to devote more time and attention almost every day to sitting at my Dad’s art table, with his spirit guiding me, I like to think…...
I constantly see art in everything – flowers, birds, patterns in nature, shadows, reflections, textures - unlimited impressions and have the urge to capture it all. I often gravitate toward quite stylized motifs – imaginary colors and shapes – though Virginia’s scenes and nature often catch my eye. In addition, as I travel the world with my husband, we collect thousands of images, much to my delight and dismay…..it is a blessing and a curse to have such a constant desire to re-interpret endless images. Art truly IS everywhere, in light, and shapes, colors and impressions, a virtual non-stop show!
Having high hopes to create even a very small percentage of these images in my own interpretations, - in watercolor, acrylic, pencil, pastel, or markers – I paint, as many artists do, for my own pleasure and fulfillment. However, it IS a great satisfaction to paint alongside fellow artists also, to share the process and learn, to evaluate our finished pieces, and to display my art in public. Having an outcome of any admiration or success in sharing/selling my artistic endeavors certainly is a fabulous welcome bonus.
