Ann Elizabeth McCarty

As a former special education teacher, I dedicated many years to nurturing young minds and fostering an inclusive environment for all learners. Now, in my retirement, I find myself in the breathtaking Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, where nature’s artistry provides me with an endless source of inspiration in its rich tapestry of landscapes that ignite my passion for painting and creativity.

The groundwork for my artistic endeavors began at George Mason University, where I had the privilege of studying under the talented Nikki Brugnoli-Whipkey. I have continued to expand my skills and knowledge through multiple workshops. I have learned from esteemed artists such as Steven Walker of Valdosta, GA, Peter Fiore of Milford, PA, and Kathy Dansie of Winchester, VA. Each of these experiences has enriched my skill, my understanding of the art world, and deepened my appreciation for the nuances of painting.

Today, I am painting alongside Ms. Snow Fielding at the Mill at Carter Hall in Millwood, VA. These collaborative sessions provide opportunities for growth, sharing, and creative exploration. I am particularly drawn to capturing pastoral landscapes and still life compositions, as I strive to convey the interplay of light and its effects on color, transparency, and reflection. My artistic practice is deeply focused on the forms, values, and textures of my subjects, and I enjoy the challenge of translating these elements onto the canvas.
